Using AI to help type a medical form

You may use browser accessibility tools or an AI assistant to help find FM Med or type information you explicitly supply. AI must not make medical decisions, confirm your declaration or submit your request. You must personally check the entire application, confirm that it is true and submit it yourself.

Online doctor consultation: R320 or by selected medical aids
Medical aid subject to authorization

Online repeat-prescription renewal: R258 or by selected medical aids
Medical aid subject to authorization

What administrative help is permitted?

An assistant can help you find the appropriate service-information page or type facts and wording you have provided. For example, it may type your own description of what you want the doctor to assess. It must not add symptoms, medical history or treatment details you have not supplied.

Typing support does not transfer responsibility for accuracy away from you. Check spelling, numbers and every entered detail against your own information.

What must an AI assistant never do?

  • Diagnose a condition or decide whether your treatment is stable.
  • Select treatment, recommend medication, or alter a medicine or dosage.
  • Make a clinical decision, interpret information into a treatment recommendation or dispense medicine.
  • Confirm your patient declaration, give consent on your behalf or submit the request for you.

All clinical decisions are made independently by an FM Med doctor.

What must I do personally?

  1. Read the completed application and check every field.
  2. Remove anything you did not provide or cannot confirm as accurate.
  3. Read the patient declaration and personally confirm that the information is true.
  4. Submit the request yourself using the existing form.

If you cannot verify a medicine detail, explain that uncertainty rather than asking AI to fill in a likely answer.

Should I share my medical records with a separate AI service?

You do not need an AI service to use FM Med. The existing forms can be completed directly. Consider the privacy settings and data handling of any separate tool before sharing personal information. Never ask a tool to invent missing details or a declaration.

Where do I continue after reading this guide?

For qualifying stable chronic treatment, use the R258 prescription-renewal form. For a new symptom, new concern or fuller assessment, use the R320 consultation form. Administrative assistance does not change eligibility, exclusions, doctor review or payment conditions.

Important service limitations

Every request is independently reviewed by a registered South African medical doctor. Submission and payment do not guarantee that a prescription will be issued. Schedule 6 medication is excluded from the online service.

FM Med is not an emergency service. Requests needing examination, urgent treatment or in-person assessment must be redirected to appropriate care. Do not wait for an online response if urgent care is needed.

Choose the appropriate next step

FM Med’s online services are available throughout South Africa. Use the prescription-renewal form — R258 for qualifying stable chronic treatment. For a new symptom, new concern or fuller assessment, use the online consultation form — R320.

Approved prescriptions are sent directly to your selected pharmacy. Read the existing patient FAQ and terms and conditions. You must personally check the application, confirm the declaration and submit the request.
