Can I renew my chronic prescription online?

An online renewal may be suitable when you already take chronic medication, your treatment is stable and the doctor can assess your request appropriately from the information provided. The name of a condition alone does not determine whether a prescription can be renewed.

The doctor considers your individual circumstances and may need more information, monitoring results, a consultation or an in-person assessment. Submission and payment do not guarantee that a prescription will be issued.

What does the R258 service involve?

You submit your existing treatment details for independent doctor review. If a prescription is approved, FM Med sends it directly to the pharmacy you selected. The fee is not a promise of approval, a particular medicine or a particular renewal period.

Check the existing payment information and terms and conditions before proceeding. This information page does not change the payment process or its conditions.

What should I have ready?

  • Your personal and contact details, entered accurately.
  • The names, strengths and instructions for your current medicines, copied from your own records rather than guessed.
  • Relevant medical history, allergies and any changes since your last assessment.
  • Your chosen pharmacy’s correct branch and contact information.

You remain responsible for checking the complete application and personally confirming and submitting it.

When is a consultation more appropriate?

A new symptom, new concern, uncertainty about treatment or a request to change medication needs assessment rather than being presented as a routine repeat. The R320 online consultation is the route for a fuller online assessment. The doctor may still recommend examination or in-person care.

FM Med is not an emergency service. If urgent treatment is needed, seek appropriate urgent or emergency care rather than waiting for an online renewal.

How does the prescription reach my pharmacy?

Choose the pharmacy in the existing renewal form and check the details before you submit. Only approved prescriptions are sent. Contact the selected pharmacy about receipt and collection; an online request is not a medicine order or a delivery promise.
