What does stable existing treatment mean for a request?
The renewal route is intended for treatment you already use for an ongoing condition where an online review is clinically appropriate. Tell the doctor about any new symptoms, recent treatment changes or concerns. Do not decide on your own that these details are too small to mention.
Stability is part of the doctor’s assessment, not a box that guarantees eligibility. The renewal service costs R258.
Which common treatment areas may be considered?
The following guides explain how to prepare information for a review. They are examples of treatment areas, not a list of approved medicines or a promise that every request in these groups will qualify.
What is outside the renewal route?
Schedule 6 medication is excluded from FM Med’s online service. A routine renewal is also not a way to obtain a diagnosis, start a new medicine or choose a new dose. An online consultation does not remove the Schedule 6 exclusion.
For a new symptom or concern, the R320 online consultation offers fuller assessment. Requests needing an examination, urgent treatment or in-person assessment must be redirected appropriately.
Why might the doctor ask for more information?
The doctor may need to clarify your history, current treatment, monitoring or available results before deciding. A request can be declined or redirected even if another doctor previously issued the medicine. Past use does not by itself establish that another prescription is appropriate now.

FM Med is not an emergency service. Requests needing examination, urgent treatment or in-person assessment must be redirected to appropriate care. Do not wait for an online response if urgent care is needed.
